GCKnives Ikejime Fish Spike 5 1/4"
My Ikejime fish spike is a purpose-built tool to instantly destroy the fish's brain. With tuna fish in particular this is extremely important. Just like deer hunting you want to dispatch your kill as quickly and humanely as possible. This will prevent stress hormones from entering the meat giving it an off or "fishy" taste and smell. It will also prevent the tuna from freaking out and flapping on the deck for up to 20 minutes which bruises and literally cooks the meat, turning it from a beautiful red or pink to grey. If tuna fishing or fishing in general isn't your cup of tea this certainly makes a perfect defense tool.
These spikes are made from high grade 440C stainless that has been differentially and cryogenically heat-treated for maximum toughness. They are also coated with cerakote H series for great corrosion resistance in salt water. Of course it still needs to be cleaned and dried between uses. Each spike comes with an optional kydex sheath.
About GCKnives-
Greg Cimms is not your run of the mill bladesmith. After job hopping for quite a while, Greg found himself working in the restaurant industry and falling in love with the cooking and the chaos of the kitchen. It was here where he was introduced to the world of specialized knives. After purchasing a few custom kitchen knives for himself, he realized that most knives could be improved even further to match his high standards. In 2013, Greg took a leap forward and made his very own backyard forge. Two years later, he was able to work as a bladesmith fulltime. In 2017, Greg became Journeyman Smith certified by the American Bladesmith Society by having his blades rigorously tested and critiqued by a panel of master bladesmith judges. By combining his passion for art, performance, and high standards, Greg has been able to produce quality goods for customers in the kitchen and on the water.
