Yamaga Blanks BlueSniper Boat Rod

yamaga-logo.png

To enjoy plug casting on a boat, it’s essential to use tackle that matches the target species and situation. The BlueSniper Boat Casting series offers a lineup designed to effectively appeal to a variety of target species, with plug actions suited for different situations, from kayaks to large charter boats. All models prioritize a light, responsive casting feel, along with a well-balanced bend and butt power that makes it easier to apply pressure on fish. These core features provide a clear advantage in boat fishing, where situations often don’t go as planned.

Additionally, special classes like the Canary and Blacky, designed specifically for large tuna species, feature blanks engineered for extreme speed and torque, enabling you to handle the fight with tuna. When battling tuna, it’s crucial to bend the rod without being overpowered, maintaining constant pressure. The tuna models are built with blanks that offer resilience and retain their recoil, ensuring continuous pressure can be applied. Despite being power-focused models, they also provide excellent casting ability, making it easier to target or draw out feeding fish, ensuring you don’t miss those fleeting opportunities.

Models:

70/2

The BlueSniper 70/2 is a short, maneuverable model designed for situations where quick, precise casts are needed, like on party boats. The tip has a stiffness similar to the 81/2 model, but the power from the midsection to the butt provides a firm, crisp action, close to that of a 3-power rod. The tip allows for smooth casting of lures around 20g, and the compact length makes it highly recommended for kayak fishing.

72/3

This medium-class model features excellent maneuverability thanks to its short length. It’s designed for easy handling and responsive action when targeting skipjack or other bluefin species from pleasure boats or kayaks. This rod is recommended for those who feel the 79/3 is a bit too powerful or those who want more power than the 70/2. The delicate tip is capable of handling small pencils and small-diameter diving poppers.

75/4

This short-length model excels in casting performance. Being an underhand casting model, every detail of its casting ability has been carefully considered. Despite its length, it allows for effortless long-distance casting with lures up to 80g. Its excellent maneuverability makes it ideal for fishing on crowded boats or small boats where space is limited.

79/3

At first glance, this rod feels like a 4-power model, but it offers a light casting feel and a tip that can delicately handle small lures. It excels in situations where only small lures will attract bites, while also providing enough butt power to confidently handle unexpected large bluefin. During testing, it successfully caught a 30 kg+ yellowfin tuna, demonstrating its impressive potential.

81/2

This model is designed to use lures ranging from ultra-small to around 15 cm, which were previously difficult to use with traditional tackle. While it can handle very small lures, it offers a sharp casting feel that allows for precise, pinpoint accuracy. For fish like skipjack or yellowtail (around 10 kg), this rod lets you enjoy light casting while maintaining full control during the fight.

82/4

This model enhances tip sensitivity, allowing for more automatic lure manipulation. During the fight, the rod’s flex allows for a smooth, quick recovery of the fish. Following the 79/3, this model is a versatile standard choice for targeting yellowtail and amberjack. Despite its light handling, it packs impressive power, making it a great option for beginners as well.

85/4 "Canary"

The “Canary” is a lighter-class tuna model, named after the canary-colored skin of amberjack, and is designed as a multi-model targeting tuna species like yellowfin tuna and amberjack. Its casting ability is impressive, achieving an astonishing range of around 100 meters (PE4 / 70g lure) during tests, and it can deliver excellent distance with lures under 30g. Even in limited spaces or when casting angles are restricted, such as aboard large charter boats, it can cast nearly as far as a full cast. It allows for accurate targeting of distant surface schools and helps to bring fish to the surface quickly. The strong, durable butt section enables it to stop a fish's run, even when targeting amberjack and other fish that tend to run to the reef. This model is versatile, able to handle a wide range of lures and target species, all while maintaining uncompromised performance.

82/6

This is the strongest model in the series, capable of withstanding even the largest amberjacks. It features exceptional lifting power and has been redesigned from the tip to the belly to handle delicate actions, such as with diving pencils, which require smooth water interaction. While allowing for technical lures, it also enables quick recovery during the fight, ensuring the fish doesn't gain control. This model is perfect for decisive, swift action.

81/6 "Blacky"

This light tuna model, designed for PE6-class lines, is ideal for casting lures that match small bait sizes. It allows for long-distance casts with 30g lures, effective for small bait patterns, while also providing enough power to handle tuna around 50kg. Despite being a light model, it boasts impressive combat capability. The design incorporates a "bend and endure" structure, which reduces strain on the angler and allows for quick responses when tuna make sudden moves toward the boat.

81/8 "Blacky"

Among the tuna models in the Blacky series, this rod offers the highest versatility. It's perfect for small plugs around 40g as well as medium-sized plugs around 120g. The flexible midsection allows the rod to endure and support the angler’s lift strength. It’s not just a soft rod, but one with enough lifting power to bring tuna to the surface. Additionally, the four-axis carbon incorporated into the butt section aids the angler’s lifting ability, absorbing sudden runs from not only tuna but also large yellowtail, ensuring the angler never loses control.

81/10 "Blacky"

This is a heavy tuna model in the 10-power class. It is recommended for anglers targeting tuna that grow to over 100kg. With a power rating higher than the 81/8, it handles larger lures around 130g with ease, making it ideal for attracting both yellowtail and tuna. Though designed with a flexing action, the four-axis carbon butt section provides excellent recovery from torsion, giving a significant advantage in long battles with large tuna or yellowtail, as well as in handling powerful runs.

About Yamaga Blanks-

Rod building is a craft that Yamaga Blanks, a sister company with Ripple Fisher, has been perfecting since 2008 in their factory in Kumamoto, Japan. The craftsmen that work on these rods are seasoned and often have discussions with the designers to create a better product. Rods are repeatedly tested to make them tougher, lighter, and easier to fish.
